Information Management Strategy framework now available

The need for information management

Effective use of data is a key issue for school management, as system integration enhances the smooth running of the school, with not only improved efficiencies but also possible cost savings.

Becta has published an Information Management Strategy framework guide to help schools make more effective and secure use of their data and improve the quality of data that they hold.

The Information Management Strategy framework is designed to help schools to review their current position on data management and provides helpful tips and hints on how to plan further actions.

Using the Information Management Strategy framework will help your school to improve the quality of the data you collect and manage it more effectively to support teaching and learning. It will also assist you in meeting the aims of Every Child Matters, the requirements of safeguarding children and parental engagement. There is also information to help schools improve data security.

Benefits

Using the framework will help your school by providing you with:

  • better evidence to support discussions with local authorities, Ofsted, school improvement partners, governors and other stakeholders
  • more efficient tracking of learner progress and achievement
  • better monitoring and setting of targets for faster responses to attendance and behaviour problems
  • more effective communication with parents on pupils’ progress.

How to use the framework

The Information Management Strategy framework covers four key strands of developing an effective information management strategy;

  • leading an information management strategy;
  • developing capacity and capability;
  • gaining effectiveness and efficiency;
  • improving data management.

There are five levels of maturity in the framework, so wherever your school’s information management strategy is currently, you can benefit from using the framework.

In working systematically through each of the four strands, you will develop a realistic picture of how well your school manages information. You can then identify priority areas and develop an action plan for achieving efficient and effective information management throughout your school.

Order your copy of the framework or download a PDF version from Becta’s publications area.
