Framework for ICT Technical Support

Becta has launched FITS (Framework for ICT Technical Support) as an independent, not for profit organisation providing National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) to IT technicians in schools. Although it continues to be supported by Becta it is now reformed as the FITS Foundation.

There are 23,000 school IT technicians in the country, which is the largest professional group of educationalists behind teachers and teaching assistants. The launch of FITS provides this important workforce with the chance to develop their careers and gain nationally recognised qualifications.

IT support staff can now undertake training from FITS to gain NVQs, which recognises IT support skills such as change, incident and problem management, as well as service management. The qualifications available include the Level 4 NVQ certificate ICT Support In Education: Practitioner and the Level 5 NVQ certificate ICT Support in Education: Manager. Courses will take between two and four days.

Schools and local authorities can sign up to FITS to enrol staff by contacting the FITS Foundation. The qualifications are delivered through classroom courses combined with practical exercises and an assessment at the end of each course.
